"I had Erick fix damage from pipes bursting this winter. He patched smoothed and painted my living room and dining room as well as replaced trim and smoothed and painted our old textured ceilings in our upstairs while sanding and refinishing all of our floors. I went into this process apprehensive after having several terrible experiences with contractors and construction previously. We own a two story colonial featuring a farmers porch. Ariela worked closely with us in the color selection process which was big help as we wanted to change the color of the entire house from beige to a darker blue. "Sergjo and his team were fantastic. We initially hired them to stain some wood interior doors. Upon seeing their work, we decided to move forward and have them do the trim/baseboard throughout our house. This then lead into additional staining, rooms being painted, touch up work being done. He and his crew really saved us when our flooring person messed up our newly painted baseboards and used the wrong polyurethane on the floors. Who knew they could seal floors as well. They have gone above and beyond any expectations. They are prompt, on time, extremely professional, meticulous in their work, and most of all reliable. "Sovereign Painting patched, filled, plastered and painted two rooms plus hallways, entranceways, and foyer in my home. The rooms were very difficult and had not ben painted in 30 years. They included a high cathedral ceiling and walls that needed plastering and baseboard heating. They exceeded my expectations in every way and especially the quality of their work and their attention for small detail. They plastered holes, covered cracks with tape and used the latest technology for water stains. They followed best practices and did not cut corners. They delivered two needed coats while others only quoted one. They fixed, patched and painted railing that I did not think could be saved. They were extremely professional. I was so impressed that I asked then to return and paint the rest of the house. These are the real pro's and were very competitively priced. "I honestly cannot say enough good things about this company. We contacted them and I believe they came out within a day or so. The estimate was fair based on others we got. The crew was great. They were on time, courteous, and made sure everything was cleaned up at the end of the day. In addition to the cabinets they also painted our kitchen. They even asked to work a few hours on a Sunday so they would be able to finish the project faster. We could not be happier with the results. My wife was extremely happy. "what a GREAT experience! On time, clean, professional and friendly. His work was perfect with no detail left unnoticed. I have repairs done to drywall, stair railing and baseboards. He added little pieces where needed and sanded to perfection. He added 17 ft of baseboards around a kneewall and matched it pwrfectly to the current non stock baseboards already here. He trimmed out the kitchen window and pieced around cabinets so it looks like it has always been there. I love him so much he is going to redo the top of the kneewall for me! "As a long-time home owner who has hired many contractors over the past 43 years and as a detail oriented guy, I can say (unequivocally) that the crew at Gold Painting is second to NONE: punctual, meticulous, efficient, polite, eager to please and highly skilled. Tony and his brother, Rui, Nelci and his son, Yuriel, along with Sylvano, Hector and Milton completed power-washing, scraping, priming and top-coating the front of our barn & the street side of the house in 2.5 days. Their work was so exceptional that I hired them for a second project: prepping and painting the driveway facing side of the house, which they completed in just over two days. The guys appeared promptly at 8am on the final day, worked through lunch and were finished by mid-afternoon. Painting the porch decking was not specified in the proposal but when I asked, Tony (without hesitation) put Nelci and Milton on the task, which they completed quickly and expertly. I could not be more pleased with the results...on both projects. You may solicit multiple bids for your painting project (as I did), but you will not find a more skilled, conscientious, thorough and efficient company than Gold Painting. From start to finish, they were professional, reassuring of the extra work that needed to be done, cleaned up above and beyond, and the exterior paint job was glorious. Here is a quick rundown of their excellent work: - Douglass showed up on time and sent me the estimate the next day. - He amended the estimate per our discussions and immediately sent a new quote. - They showed up on time and in positive spirits. - They power-washed and covered all items appropriately. - They prepped and removed items I could not remove and replaced them afterward. - We ran into a big hiccup with extensive rot in the corner of my house. They demolished it, removed the rotten wood, cleaned the area, reframed the corner, and put in new siding, insulation, and exterior shingles outside and inside the room, not only inside the corner but two adjoining walls and ceiling. It looks like a new house. - They removed all the trash and took away this old AC that was built into the wall by a previous owner that caused much of the rot. - They painted the shutters, doors, and handrails down the front steps. - They were kind, professional, and highly skilled. Instead, save yourself the time and hassle and find a local interior painter.
Leave exterior painting to the pros. Not only do you need to worry about the type and quality of the paint, you’ll also likely need a ladder and considerably more prep work. You’ll likely need additional equipment like ladders, scaffolding and possibly a paint sprayer. It’s almost cheaper to just hire a pro. Talk to a local exterior house painter about your project.
- Do your research. Understand what to expect and what to look for in a pro. Look at paint types, prices and costs.

- Calculate paint coverage
- Call pros for site inspections and estimates. Always get three to five estimates.
- Check references, compare quotes, look at past work. After you have estimates in hand, do one final pass to compare the contractors.
- Sign a contract with the pro of your choice. You might need to make a down payment, usually 25% to 50% of the total project cost to cover material costs, but not all pros require this. Don’t pay for the entire project upfront.
- A complete inspection. Each pro takes a walk around your home to evaluate the condition of your current paint, the size of the job and any obstacles for accessing the site. They do this to see how much prep work they’ll need and estimate how long the job will take. The more thorough the inspection, the more accurate the quote.
- Color consultation. Expect each contractor to have varying color options and suggestions. However, you have the final say.
- Listen to the pro – they’re experts after all – but don’t get pushed into a color combination or finish type that you don’t want. Understand the different exterior paints or interior paint choices before your pro arrives.
- A rough estimate or complete quote. Finishing contractors vary here. Usually, they can quote straightforward projects on the spot. But some may need to take it back to their shop to run numbers and give you a detailed estimate with costs broken out. Neither method is better than the other, but just make sure to get multiple quotes.
- How long have you been in business? A long business history helps you avoid shoddy companies. It’s hard for a service business to stay in business if they don’t do good work.
- Are you licensed and insured? Not all states require a license for painting homes, but many do. Always use one that’s insured.
- Do you belong to any professional organizations? You’ll find many online, like the Painting Contractors Association or the Finishing Contractors Association?
- Do you have other work I can look at? Always check a portfolio or, in the case of painters, it’s better to look at work they did a few years ago to see how well it’s held up.
- How long will the job take? Get a rough estimate but get it in writing.
- How many people are in your crew? This is especially important if you work remotely. More people generally means more noise, but they’ll be done faster.
- Will I be in the way if I’m home during the painting? You usually won’t be in the way, but this question helps you understand what to expect while they’re working. They’ll need to lay down coverings and do a lot of prep work.
- Do you guarantee your work? Never hire a painter who doesn’t guarantee their work. This often means they’ll rush the prep work, since peeling never happens right away.
- What type of paint do you use, and how long is it rated to last? Different rooms need different paint and the exterior needs exterior paint. It comes in different grades with different guaranteed lifetimes.
- Can you supply a written estimate and contract? Never use a painter who isn’t willing to put his work in writing.
